Our Printed Toilet Paper History

Printed toilet paper has been around for quite a while. We founded Star Toilet Paper in the Fall of 2010 with the hope of brining about not only a new form of printed toilet paper, but also with the desire to revolutionize the advertising industry. This weeks post is going to take you through the history of our printed toilet paper. It is simply being written to show the process we have undergone and all of the different things we have tried. Each picture will have a few sentences about why we made it and what we learned from it highlighting the importance of a startup getting through feedback loops quickly and sustainably.

Original Run:

Our first run was used by us to see what ads on toilet paper would actually look like. We used fictitious names like Jordan’s Pizza and Campus Clothing. Right away we knew we wanted to do ads and coupons and have a logo on every ad. You can see the star used to be in the top left as opposed to the bottom right of every sheet. This helped us reach out to real companies in order to have a prototype that we could pitch to a set of paid advertisers.

Prototype:

This is the first set of toilet paper with our new logo courtesy of Bryan. We tried something new here with very simple advertisements in addition to coupons, which we continue to do today. To this day I think the ad we get the most comments on is courtesy of Create My Tee.

First Order:

After we printed these we did a ton of video interviews and surveys to obtain some qualitative research about how people interact with our printed toilet paper. What we learned most? We have to make it more clear how to redeem your coupons. I mean can you even see the coupon codes on here?

QR Codes:

As a startup the most important thing we can do is constantly learn. This roll was to test different QR Code sizes so we could know what the minimum we could print. Now we make them even bigger then the minimum and couple them with a strong call to action in order to drive scans and interaction between our clients and consumers.

Last Order:

Fish Doctors FINAL

Pita Pit FINAL

What do you think we can change to make our current order better for the future?
